Activating Windows 8 Enterprise

October 25, 2014

If you have installed Windows 8 Enterprise onto your computer and like me was completely baffled by the lack of the usual product key entering / activation process which is simple in Windows 8 Pro and previously in Windows 7, then it’s actually reasonably simple.

If you have a KMS on your network, then you just need to add the relevant product key to your KMS server and the client OS will activate quickly and easily. However if you are like me and don’t use a KMS, then to get the MAK key entered into Windows 8 you need to run the command below (with your proper serial number) from an elevated command prompt.

slmgr.vbs -ipk 12345-12345-12345-12345

Once you run this, a popup will appear saying that key has been installed and when you check your activation status again it will show it now as activated.
